Before editing the Maian Journal templates you should do the following:

1 Make a copy of the 'content/_theme_default/' folder.

Example:
content/_theme_new

(It is important your theme folder starts with "_theme" so the system can pick it up)

2 Log into your admin area and go to "Layout > Themes" (via the menu) and change the default theme to your new folder.

This ensures that future updates don't break your layout. You can also refer to the original for reference.
